"The Volunteer" - Fireman Sculpture by James Marsico

Here I was sculpting on the clay for this monument and the finished bronze in front of our firehall. I was on the Powell Vol. Fire Dept. as a firefighter for eight years. Since at the time I lived less than a block from the hall I usually made the first truck out as driver.

The talk around town then was whenever there was a traffic accident was "here comes the sculptor/local taxidermist and veterinarian, Dr. Ray Acker (who usually also made the truck with me), to pick up the pieces!" As you might know, you have to have a dark humor like that to stay on long as a emergency rescue worker.
